H.F. 2022 Section 1. Section 903A.2, subsection 1, paragraph a, 1 unnumbered paragraph 1, Code 2009, is amended to read as 2 follows: 3 Category “A” sentences are those sentences which are not 4 subject to a maximum accumulation of earned time of fifteen 5 percent of the total sentence of confinement under section 6 902.12. To the extent provided in subsection 5, category “A” 7 sentences also include life sentences imposed under section 8 902.1. An inmate of an institution under the control of 9 the department of corrections who is serving a category “A” 10 sentence is eligible for a reduction of sentence equal to 11 one and two-tenths one-half days for each day the inmate 12 demonstrates good conduct and satisfactorily participates in 13 any program or placement status identified by the director to 14 earn the reduction. The programs include but are not limited 15 to the following: 16 EXPLANATION 17 This bill relates to the calculation of earned time for an 18 inmate. 19 Under the bill, the amount of earned time an inmate is 20 eligible to earn for a reduction of sentence increases from 21 1.2 days to 1.5 days for each day the inmate demonstrates 22 good conduct and satisfactorily participates in any program 23 or placement status identified by the director to earn the 24 reduction. 25 -1- LSB 5156YH (2) 83 jm/nh 1/ 1
