H.F. 2017 Section 1. Section 462A.6, subsection 7, Code 2009, is 1 amended by striking the subsection and inserting in lieu 2 thereof the following: 3 7. An inflatable vessel, seven feet or less in length. 4 Sec. 2. Section 462A.6A, Code 2009, is amended by adding the 5 following new subsection: 6 NEW SUBSECTION . 5. A nonpower or nonsail canoe or kayak. 7 However, registration decals shall be attached on the bow six 8 inches toward the stern on the port and starboard sides on a 9 nonpower or nonsail canoe or kayak eight feet or greater in 10 length and a single registration decal shall be attached to the 11 inside of a nonpower or nonsail canoe or kayak less than eight 12 feet in length. 13 EXPLANATION 14 This bill requires that nonpower or nonsail canoes and 15 kayaks be registered and have registration decals attached. 16 The bill requires that registration decals be attached 17 on the bow of such canoes and kayaks that are eight feet or 18 greater in length and that a registration decal be attached on 19 the inside of such a canoe or kayak that is less than eight 20 feet in length. Currently, conventional design canoes and 21 kayak-type vessels that are 13 feet or less in length are 22 not required to be registered or to display registration and 23 capacity numbers. 24 A violation of these registration and display requirements 25 is punishable by a scheduled fine of $10. 26 -1- LSB 5592YH (2) 83 av/nh 1/ 1
