  1  1                SENATE RESOLUTION NO.

  1  3 A Resolution recognizing the 50th anniversary of the
  1  4    Iowa Rose Festival in State Center.
  1  5    WHEREAS, in 1958, Mrs. W. A. Norcross, former
  1  6 President of the Iowa Rose Society, visited State
  1  7 Center, as well as other towns in Iowa; and
  1  8    WHEREAS, after considerable investigation and
  1  9 thought brought the matter before the Iowa Rose
  1 10 Society asking that State Center be designated as the
  1 11 Rose Capital because it was located in the heart of
  1 12 Iowa on U.S. Highway 30; and
  1 13    WHEREAS, the town of State Center was small enough
  1 14 to be "literally covered with roses" and a new park
  1 15 had not yet been landscaped for a formal rose garden;
  1 16 and
  1 17    WHEREAS, on November 23, 1958, several officers of
  1 18 the Iowa Rose Society traveled to State Center to
  1 19 confer the title of Iowa Rose Capital, asking that the
  1 20 town be so designated; and
  1 21    WHEREAS, the 50th year anniversary of the Iowa Rose
  1 22 Festival will be held June 19 through June 22, 2008,
  1 23 in State Center, celebrating a festival that is known
  1 24 for an All=American Rose Society accredited garden of
  1 25 roses with over 3,000 plants of various colors and
  1 26 varieties; NOW THEREFORE,
  1 27    BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the Senate
  1 28 recognizes the 50th anniversary of the Iowa Rose
  1 29 Festival and urges all Iowans to plan a visit to this
  1 30 celebration as part of a great tradition in Iowa.
