  1  1                SENATE RESOLUTION NO.

  1  3 A Resolution to welcome the new Iowa Barnstormers arena
  1  4    football team to Iowa.
  1  5    WHEREAS, in 1993, Iowan Jim Foster, the originator
  1  6 of indoor football, returned home to begin his own
  1  7 franchise in Des Moines; and
  1  8    WHEREAS, the Iowa Barnstormers debuted in Des
  1  9 Moines in 1995 as a member of the Arena Football
  1 10 League, but left the state in 2000; and
  1 11    WHEREAS, after eight years, a new Barnstormers team
  1 12 has taken the field, as an arenafootball2 team; and
  1 13    WHEREAS, the Iowa Barnstormers will compete as part
  1 14 of a 29=team league; and
  1 15    WHEREAS, the Iowa Barnstormers will play in the
  1 16 six=team Midwest Division of the American Conference,
  1 17 which also includes the Green Bay Blizzard, Lexington
  1 18 Horsemen, Louisville Fire, Peoria Pirates, and Quad
  1 19 City Steamwheelers; and
  1 20    WHEREAS, the Iowa Barnstormers' home opener is
  1 21 April 14, 2008, against Lexington at Wells Fargo Arena
  1 22 in Des Moines; NOW THEREFORE,
  1 23    BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the Senate
  1 24 welcomes the Iowa Barnstormers back to Des Moines and
  1 25 encourages all Iowans to attend the Iowa Barnstormers'
  1 26 home opener and enjoy this latest addition to Iowa
  1 27 sports.
