1 3 A Resolution to congratulate J. Barry Griswell and the
1 4 Principal Financial Group for being named one of
1 5 the "Top 25 Best Places To Work" by Fortune
1 6 Magazine.
1 7 WHEREAS, in 1879 Edward Temple helped form the
1 8 Bankers Life Association, providing life insurance
1 9 protection for bankers and their employees; and
1 10 WHEREAS, the Bankers Life Association prospered
1 11 through innovation == it was the first life insurance
1 12 company to use direct mail advertising, it purchased a
1 13 radio station and began radio advertising, and in 1940
1 14 it opened a landmark home office building, the first
1 15 in Des Moines to be completely air=conditioned; and
1 16 WHEREAS, today, over a century later, the Bankers
1 17 Life Association is now the Principal Financial Group,
1 18 Iowa's only Fortune 500 company and a leading global
1 19 financial company offering businesses, individuals,
1 20 and institutional clients financial products and
1 21 services; and
1 22 WHEREAS, the Principal Financial Group is one of
1 23 Iowa's greatest employers, with about 8,000 employees
1 24 in Des Moines and 560 in Mason City; and
1 25 WHEREAS, Fortune Magazine has ranked the Principal
1 26 Financial Group 21st in its annual list of the "Top 25
1 27 Best Places to Work", citing 100 percent income
1 28 retirement benefits for most employees, a new child
1 29 care center, and the ability to buy time off; NOW
1 30 THEREFORE,
2 1 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
2 2 That the House of Representatives congratulates the
2 3 Principal Financial Group and its President and Chief
2 4 Executive Officer J. Barry Griswell on being named one
2 5 of the "Top 25 Best Places to Work" by Fortune
2 6 Magazine.
