1 An Act relating to a baby boom generation workforce study.

1 1 Section 1. BABY BOOM GENERATION WORKFORCE STUDY. If
1 2 sufficient funding is approved or appropriated by the general
1 3 assembly, or if a local political subdivision provides
1 4 sufficient funding, or if sufficient private funding becomes
1 5 available to the state board of regents for such purposes,
1 6 Iowa state university's department of sociology, in
1 7 coordination with the Iowa state university extension service,
1 8 shall conduct a study regarding the efforts that are being
1 9 made, and the efforts that could be made, to retain in and
1 10 attract to Iowa people of the baby boom generation. For
1 11 purposes of this section, "baby boom generation" means people
1 12 born no earlier than 1946 and no later than 1964. The study
1 13 shall also consider those who reside in other states for part
1 14 of the year, the career opportunities available to baby
1 15 boomers, the educational needs of baby boomers and the career
1 16 experiences and productivity benefits that baby boomers bring
1 17 to Iowa's workforce. The results of the study shall be made
1 18 available in a report to the governor and the general assembly
1 19 by January 15, 2009.
1 20 EXPLANATION
1 21 This bill relates to a baby boom generation workforce
1 22 study. The bill directs Iowa state university's department of
1 23 sociology and the Iowa state university extension service to
1 24 conduct a study on workforce issues pertaining to people born
1 25 no earlier than 1946 and no later than 1964. The directive is
1 26 contingent on funding. If funded, the results of the study
1 27 must be submitted to the governor and general assembly by
1 28 January 15, 2009.
