Section 709.18, Code 2007, is amended to read 1 2 as follows: 1 3 709.18 ABUSE OF A CORPSE. 1 4 1. A person commits abuse of a human corpse if the person 1 5 knowingly and intentionally engages in a sex act, as defined 1 6 in section 702.17, with a human corpse.Abuse of a human 1 7 corpse is a class "D" felony.1 8 2. A person commits abuse of a human corpse if the person 1 9 mutilates, disfigures, or dismembers a human corpse with the 1 10 intent to conceal a crime. 1 11 3. A person commits abuse of a human corpse if the person 1 12 hides or buries a human corpse with the intent to conceal a 1 13 crime. 1 14 4. A person who violates this section commits a class "D" 1 15 felony. 1 16 EXPLANATION 1 17 This bill relates to abuse of a human corpse. 1 18 The bill provides that a person shall not mutilate, 1 19 disfigure, dismember, hide, or bury a human corpse with the 1 20 intent to conceal a crime. A person who violates the bill 1 21 commits a class "D" felony. 1 22 Current law only prohibits a person from knowingly engaging 1 23 in a sex act with a human corpse. 1 24 A class "D" felony is punishable by confinement for no more 1 25 than five years and a fine of at least $750, but not more than 1 26 $7,500. 1 27 LSB 1174HH 82 1 28 jm:nh/je/5
