  1  1    Section 1.  Section 462A.26, subsection 3, paragraph a,
  1  2 subparagraph (2), Code 2007, is amended to read as follows:
  1  3    (2)  Motorboats shall maintain a minimum passing or meeting
  1  4 distance of fifty feet when both boats are traveling at speeds
  1  5 greater than five miles per hour.  A motorboat shall maintain
  1  6 a minimum distance of one hundred feet when meeting or passing
  1  7 a boat that is traveling at a speed of five miles per hour or
  1  8 less or that is not moving in the water.
  1  9                           EXPLANATION
  1 10    This bill amends Code section 462A.26 to require a
  1 11 motorboat to maintain a minimum distance of 100 feet when
  1 12 meeting or passing a boat that is traveling at a speed of five
  1 13 miles per hour or less or that is not moving in the water.
  1 14    A violation of this new provision is punishable by a
  1 15 scheduled fine of $20.
