  1  1           HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO.    
  1  2                       BY  MASCHER
  1  3 A Concurrent Resolution recognizing the rights of workers
  1  4    in Iowa's meatpacking industry.
  1  5    WHEREAS, the State of Iowa is home to a significant
  1  6 meatpacking industry with thousands of workers; and
  1  7    WHEREAS, the State of Iowa advocates safe work
  1  8 practices and responsible management; and
  1  9    WHEREAS, the State of Iowa believes that all
  1 10 workers in this state should be treated with dignity
  1 11 and respect; NOW THEREFORE,
  1 12    BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, THE
  1 13 SENATE CONCURRING, That the General Assembly supports
  1 14 the following rights for workers in Iowa's meatpacking
  1 15 industry:
  1 16    1.  The right to organize.
  1 17    2.  The right to a safe workplace.
  1 18    3.  The right to adequate facilities and the
  1 19 opportunity to use them.
  1 20    4.  The right to adequate equipment.
  1 21    5.  The right to complete information.
  1 22    6.  The right to understand information the worker
  1 23 is entitled to know.
  1 24    7.  The right to existing state and federal
  1 25 benefits and rights.
  1 26    8.  The right to be free from discrimination.
  1 27    9.  The right to continuing training, including
  1 28 supervisor training.
  1 29    10.  The right to compensation for work performed.
  1 30    11.  The right to seek help from the state.
  2  1    BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF
  2  2 REPRESENTATIVES, THE SENATE CONCURRING, That the
  2  3 General Assembly recognizes the importance of these
  2  4 rights for workers in Iowa's meatpacking industry.
