  1  1                SENATE RESOLUTION NO.    
  1  2                       BY  GASKILL
  1  3 A Resolution honoring the city of Corwith on its
  1  4    quasquicentennial.
  1  5    WHEREAS, in 1880 the track of the Minneapolis and
  1  6 St. Louis Railroad reached the banks of the Boone
  1  7 River, and at this spot Corwith was platted, on land
  1  8 owned by E.W. Gaylord, and the town began to grow; and
  1  9    WHEREAS, by 1883 Corwith had become a full=fledged
  1 10 community, with a school, a post office, several
  1 11 retail stores, and several manufacturing concerns,
  1 12 including a lumberyard and a creamery; and
  1 13    WHEREAS, early on Corwith was a "cattle and hay"
  1 14 town, with wild hay being harvested on open prairie
  1 15 land and bundled for the Chicago market; and
  1 16    WHEREAS, as farming grew in Hancock County, Corwith
  1 17 grew into a supply center for the surrounding farmers,
  1 18 and a tile factory was established as part of the
  1 19 development of extensive land drainage systems; and
  1 20    WHEREAS, today Corwith is home to some 350 Iowans
  1 21 and offers the same thing that it did a century ago ==
  1 22 a good place to raise a family and live a good life;
  1 23 and
  1 24    WHEREAS, the city of Corwith is celebrating its
  1 25 125th anniversary, with celebrations lasting from July
  1 26 22 through July 24, 2005; NOW THEREFORE,
  1 27    BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the Senate
  1 28 congratulates the city of Corwith on its
  1 29 quasquicentennial and invites all Iowans to make a
  1 30 trip to the July celebration in Corwith part of their
  2  1 summer plans.
