  1  1                SENATE RESOLUTION NO.    
  1  2                  BY  LAMBERTI and WARD
  1  3 A Resolution honoring actress Annette Bening and
  1  4    her Iowa roots.
  1  5    WHEREAS, Grant Bening lived in Waterloo and his
  1  6 future wife Shirley lived in La Porte City; and
  1  7    WHEREAS, the young couple met while attending the
  1  8 University of Iowa, and married in 1950; and
  1  9    WHEREAS, Grant and Shirley Bening had four
  1 10 children, Jane and Bradley, both born in Waterloo, and
  1 11 Byron and Annette, born in Topeka, Kansas; and
  1 12    WHEREAS, the Bening family moved to San Diego,
  1 13 California, when Annette Bening was six years old,
  1 14 where she soon developed a love for acting that was to
  1 15 define her education and career; and
  1 16    WHEREAS, Ms. Bening began her acting career with
  1 17 the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco,
  1 18 and her stage work earned her a Tony award nomination
  1 19 in 1987; and
  1 20    WHEREAS, Ms. Bening rocketed to stardom in the 1990
  1 21 film "The Grifters" and has garnered several Academy
  1 22 Award and Golden Globe nominations, most recently
  1 23 winning the Golden Globe in 2005 for the film "Being
  1 24 Julia" and receiving an Oscar nomination for that same
  1 25 film; and
  1 26    WHEREAS, Ms. Bening has numerous family members who
  1 27 still live and work in the Des Moines area, including
  1 28 Clark Bening and his wife Chris, and Ray Bening and
  1 29 his wife Carrie; NOW THEREFORE,
  1 30    BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the Senate
  2  1 congratulates Annette Bening on her remarkable career
  2  2 and celebrates her Iowa roots and connections.
