Senate Resolution 4 - Introduced PAG LIN 1 1 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1 2 BY MULDER 1 3 A Resolution to recognize Professor Piet Koene of 1 4 Northwestern College for being selected Iowa Professor 1 5 of the Year for 2004 by the Carnegie Foundation for 1 6 the Advancement of Teaching. 1 7 WHEREAS, Professor Piet Koene came to Northwestern 1 8 College in Orange City, Iowa, in 2000, bringing with 1 9 him a passion for Hispanic culture and the Spanish 1 10 language; and 1 11 WHEREAS, that passion led Professor Koene not only 1 12 to teach Spanish to his students but also to expose 1 13 them to the rich mosaic of Hispanic culture and daily 1 14 life; and 1 15 WHEREAS, that passion, along with his skill as an 1 16 educator, has sparked a greater interest and 1 17 appreciation of the Hispanic language and culture 1 18 among the students at Northwestern College; and 1 19 WHEREAS, Professor Koene serves not only the 1 20 academic community but also the Hispanic community in 1 21 northwestern Iowa as a leader in his church and in 1 22 providing translation and other services to the 1 23 Hispanic community; and 1 24 WHEREAS, his dedication has now been recognized by 1 25 the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of 1 26 Teaching, which has selected Professor Koene as Iowa 1 27 Professor of the Year for 2004; NOW THEREFORE, 1 28 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the Senate, on 1 29 behalf of all Iowans, extends its gratitude to 1 30 Professor Koene for his tireless work in promoting the 2 1 Spanish language and Hispanic culture to the students 2 2 of Northwestern College and for his service to Iowans 2 3 generally, and congratulates him for the well=deserved 2 4 honor conferred upon him by the Carnegie Foundation 2 5 for the Advancement of Teaching. 2 6 LSB 1295SS 81 2 7 jr:nh/cf/24 1
