Senate Resolution 38 - Introduced PAG LIN 1 1 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1 2 BY HAHN 1 3 A Resolution honoring America's Vietnam veterans. 1 4 WHEREAS, from 1961 through 1973, the men and women 1 5 of America's armed forces fought on behalf of the 1 6 South Vietnamese people; and 1 7 WHEREAS, almost 3.5 million Americans served in the 1 8 Southeast Asia theater of war and more than 2.9 1 9 million served in Vietnam itself; and 1 10 WHEREAS, during that long conflict more than 58,000 1 11 Americans gave their lives for freedom's sake and 1 12 another 300,000 were wounded; and 1 13 WHEREAS, Vietnam veterans today continue to be 1 14 leaders in all walks of life and serve to make America 1 15 a better place to live; and 1 16 WHEREAS, Vietnam veterans can be proud of their 1 17 legacy of devotion to the cause of freedom and service 1 18 to America; and 1 19 WHEREAS, the Veterans of Foreign Wars has 1 20 designated the week of May 1 through 7, 2005, as 1 21 Vietnam Veterans Recognition Week in America; NOW 1 22 THEREFORE, 1 23 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the Senate, on 1 24 behalf of all Iowans, humbly thanks America's Vietnam 1 25 veterans for standing strong when they were needed and 1 26 answering the challenge when they were called. 1 27 LSB 3506XS 81 1 28 jr:nh/cf/24 1 29 1 30 1
