  1  1                SENATE RESOLUTION NO.    
  1  2                        BY  HORN
  1  3 A Resolution honoring Solon Community Schools coach
  1  4    and teacher Ed Hansen.
  1  5    WHEREAS, Ed Hansen has taught in the Solon
  1  6 Community Schools for 33 years and will be retiring
  1  7 from teaching and coaching at the end of the 2004=2005
  1  8 school year; and
  1  9    WHEREAS, Mr. Hansen coached football for 28 years,
  1 10 winning the state title in 1988, with two runner=up
  1 11 finishes and 13 conference or district championships;
  1 12 and
  1 13    WHEREAS, Mr. Hansen coached girls basketball for 25
  1 14 years, winning three state titles in 1994, 1997, and
  1 15 1998, one runner=up finish, and 14 conference
  1 16 championships; and
  1 17    WHEREAS, over the years, the Solon girls basketball
  1 18 teams averaged over 20 wins a season for their 20
  1 19 years of five=player basketball; and
  1 20    WHEREAS, Mr. Hansen coached girls golf for 22
  1 21 years, winning one state title and two conference
  1 22 championships; and
  1 23    WHEREAS, Mr. Hansen coached boys golf for three
  1 24 years, winning three conference championships; and
  1 25    WHEREAS, Mr. Hansen also coached girls track for
  1 26 nine years, baseball for three years, softball for two
  1 27 years, junior high wrestling for five years, junior
  1 28 high football for two years, and sophomore football
  1 29 for one year; and
  1 30    WHEREAS, over the decades, Ed Hansen has coached
  2  1 100 seasons and over 1,000 young people; and
  2  2    WHEREAS, Mr. Hansen's work can best be summed up in
  2  3 his own words:  "I tried to get them (student=
  2  4 athletes) to strive for excellence in all areas of
  2  5 their lives; to participate in as many activities as
  2  6 they could; develop as a person more so than as an
  2  7 athlete"; NOW THEREFORE,
  2  8    BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the Senate
  2  9 honors the long and truly remarkable career of Ed
  2 10 Hansen and thanks him for over three decades of
  2 11 dedicated service to Iowa's young people and for the
  2 12 example of public service that he provides for all
  2 13 Iowans.
