  1  1                SENATE RESOLUTION NO.    
  1  2      BY  LAMBERTI, WARD, LUNDBY, LARSON, DEARDEN,
  1  3      HORN, McCOY, HATCH, ZAUN, ANGELO, and DVORSKY
  1  4 A Resolution honoring Iowa athletes Jenna Schrack,
  1  5    Matt LaRue, Michelle Pettitt, and their coach,
  1  6    Rob Wagner, for their participation in the Special
  1  7    Olympics World Winter Games in Nagano, Japan.
  1  8    WHEREAS, the eighth Special Olympics World Winter
  1  9 Games were held in Nagano, Japan, from February 26
  1 10 through March 5, 2005; and
  1 11    WHEREAS, the event drew some 2,000 athletes from
  1 12 more than 80 countries; and
  1 13    WHEREAS, Jenna Schrack of Ankeny, Iowa, competed in
  1 14 speed skating, winning three silver medals in the 111=
  1 15 meter, 222=meter, and 333=meter events; and
  1 16    WHEREAS, Miss Schrack also won the Special Olympics
  1 17 Iowa Athlete of the Year award in 2000; and
  1 18    WHEREAS, Matt LaRue of Des Moines, Iowa, competed
  1 19 in speed skating, winning two silver medals in the
  1 20 222=meter and 500=meter events, and winning fifth
  1 21 place in the 333=meter event; and
  1 22    WHEREAS, Mr. LaRue currently serves on the Special
  1 23 Olympics Iowa board of directors; and
  1 24    WHEREAS, Michelle Pettitt of Cedar Rapids, Iowa,
  1 25 competed in skiing, bringing home the gold in the
  1 26 giant slalom, winning a silver medal in the downhill
  1 27 event, and placing fifth in the slalom; and
  1 28    WHEREAS, Miss Pettitt continues to train for
  1 29 Special Olympics roller skating events and in June
  1 30 will resume her participation in Special Olympics
  2  1 swimming events; and
  2  2    WHEREAS, the Iowa team was ably coached by Rob
  2  3 Wagner of Cedar Rapids; NOW THEREFORE,
  2  4    BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the Senate
  2  5 congratulates Iowa's Special Olympians and Coach
  2  6 Wagner for a truly remarkable string of victories and
  2  7 thanks them for the honor and recognition they have
  2  8 brought to the Special Olympics program and to the
  2  9 State of Iowa; and
  2 10    BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That, upon adoption, an
  2 11 official copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  2 12 presentation to Coach Rob Wagner, Jenna Schrack, Matt
  2 13 LaRue, and Michelle Pettitt.
