  1  1                SENATE RESOLUTION NO.    
  1  2                BY  LAMBERTI AND GRONSTAL
  1  3 A Resolution relating to the musical programming on
  1  4    Iowa Public Radio.
  1  5    WHEREAS, it is in the vital interest of the State
  1  6 of Iowa to retain and attract a younger and
  1  7 progressive workforce; and
  1  8    WHEREAS, the state recognizes the need for more
  1  9 cultural activities geared toward youth and young
  1 10 adults; and
  1 11    WHEREAS, a vibrant local music economy is a
  1 12 critical component for retaining a dynamic and diverse
  1 13 workforce; and
  1 14    WHEREAS, the continued concentration and
  1 15 centralization of commercial radio inhibits the
  1 16 ability of the local music economy to thrive because
  1 17 progressive, independent musical groups do not have a
  1 18 place in the corporate musical content format; and
  1 19    WHEREAS, public radio can play a critical role in
  1 20 providing musical content not available on commercial
  1 21 radio; NOW THEREFORE,
  1 22    BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the Senate
  1 23 respectfully requests Iowa Public Radio and the State
  1 24 Board of Regents to explore opportunities to provide
  1 25 radio listeners through their radio programming with a
  1 26 greater exposure to modern progressive musical
  1 27 content.
