  1  1                SENATE RESOLUTION NO.    
  1  2        BY  COMMITTEE ON RULES AND ADMINISTRATION
  1  3 A Resolution honoring Senator Stewart E. Iverson, Jr.
  1  4    for his years of service in the General Assembly.
  1  5    WHEREAS, Senator Stewart E. Iverson, Jr., known to
  1  6 all as "Stew", is retiring from a legislative career
  1  7 that began in the second regular session of the 73rd
  1  8 General Assembly; and
  1  9    WHEREAS, Senator Iverson, a lifelong Iowa farmer
  1 10 and former United States Marine, began his legislative
  1 11 career as a member of the House of Representatives,
  1 12 first winning election in 1989; and
  1 13    WHEREAS, in those first years Senator Iverson
  1 14 specialized in the areas of education and local
  1 15 government, serving as chair of the Committee on Local
  1 16 Government in 1993=1994; and
  1 17    WHEREAS, on entering the Senate in 1995, Senator
  1 18 Iverson served as the ranking member of the Justice
  1 19 System Appropriations Subcommittee and as a member of
  1 20 the Committees on Appropriations, Business and Labor,
  1 21 Education, and Ways and Means; and
  1 22    WHEREAS, in 1997, Senator Iverson was elected
  1 23 Senate Majority Leader and in 2005 assumed the role of
  1 24 Republican Floor Leader in the Senate when that
  1 25 chamber's membership became evenly divided; and
  1 26    WHEREAS, Senator Iverson has served as chair and
  1 27 later co=chair of the Committee on Rules and
  1 28 Administration from 1997 through 2006; and
  1 29    WHEREAS, Senator Iverson fought for Iowa's
  1 30 families, Iowa's farmers, and Iowa's businesses, has
  2  1 been an influential and devoted legislator in this
  2  2 state, and has unselfishly given of his time and
  2  3 efforts to further the interests of the State of Iowa
  2  4 and to provide beneficial programs for the citizens of
  2  5 Iowa; NOW THEREFORE,
  2  6    BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the Senate
  2  7 thanks Senator Stewart E. Iverson, Jr. for his years
  2  8 of service in both the House of Representatives and
  2  9 the Senate, and wishes him the very best in the years
  2 10 to come; and
  2 11    BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Secretary of the
  2 12 Senate is directed to prepare an official copy of this
  2 13 Resolution for presentation to Senator Iverson.
