Senate Resolution 161 - Introduced PAG LIN 1 1 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1 2 BY DVORSKY 1 3 A Resolution to recognize the centennial of the city 1 4 of Tiffin, Iowa. 1 5 WHEREAS, the city of Tiffin, located in the rolling 1 6 hills of Johnson County, Iowa, was founded in the dawn 1 7 of the 20th century; and 1 8 WHEREAS, Tiffin's main street is U.S. Highway 6, 1 9 and the old general store on the main street of town 1 10 remains intact, a historic reminder of another day; 1 11 and 1 12 WHEREAS, Tiffin has moved into the 21st century, 1 13 with a proposed $200 million "Villages of Tiffin" 1 14 project in the works and six other projects slated for 1 15 a variety of residential, commercial, and industrial 1 16 developments; and 1 17 WHEREAS, pursuant to the 2004 census, Tiffin's 1 18 population was 1,417, a jump from 975 in 2000, and in 1 19 2006 the population is now between 1,700 and 1,800; 1 20 and 1 21 WHEREAS, on July 1, 2006, Tiffin will celebrate its 1 22 centennial with a day=long community celebration, 1 23 including a car/tractor show, parade, mayor's 1 24 breakfast, ball tournaments, and a community lunch 1 25 followed by entertainment, food provided by the Tiffin 1 26 Volunteer Fire Department, and fireworks; and 1 27 WHEREAS, as part of that celebration the community 1 28 will dedicate a memorial to area veterans, organized 1 29 by local residents; NOW THEREFORE, 1 30 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the Senate 2 1 recognizes and extends its congratulations to the city 2 2 of Tiffin on its centennial and invites all Iowans to 2 3 make a visit to the July 1st celebration in Tiffin 2 4 part of their summer plans. 2 5 LSB 6714SS 81 2 6 jr:nh/sh/8 1
