  1  1                SENATE RESOLUTION NO. ___
  1  2                     BY  BRUNKHORST
  1  3 A Resolution honoring the Wartburg College wrestling
  1  4    team.
  1  5    WHEREAS, the Wartburg College "Knights" wrestling
  1  6 team finished the 2005=2006 season ranked first in the
  1  7 nation and won the 2006 National Collegiate Athletic
  1  8 Association (NCAA) Division III National Championship;
  1  9 and
  1 10    WHEREAS, at the 2006 NCAA Division III Wrestling
  1 11 Championships, held March 3 and 4, 2006, at The
  1 12 College of New Jersey's Athletic Recreation Center,
  1 13 the Wartburg Knights claimed the wrestling program's
  1 14 fifth team national title since 1996, with a 145.5=106
  1 15 win over the University of Wisconsin=La Crosse; and
  1 16    WHEREAS, seniors Tyler Hubbard and Dustin
  1 17 Hinschberger added the program's 22nd and 23rd
  1 18 individual crowns during the finals' round; and
  1 19    WHEREAS, seniors Scott Kauffman and Akeem Carter
  1 20 and junior Blake Gillis each received national runner=
  1 21 up honors; and
  1 22    WHEREAS, in conjunction with the 2006 championship,
  1 23 the National Wrestling Coaches Association Division
  1 24 III Hall of Fame inducted Jamal Fox of Wartburg
  1 25 College; and
  1 26    WHEREAS, the 2006 championship is the latest in a
  1 27 long string of accomplishments for the team that
  1 28 includes being the 14=time defending Iowa
  1 29 Intercollegiate Athletic Conference champions, the
  1 30 National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III
  2  1 champions for 1996, 1999, 2003, 2004, and  2006, and
  2  2 the National Wrestling Coaches Association/Cliff Keen
  2  3 Division III 2003, 2004, and 2006 National Duals
  2  4 champions, and having three consecutive 20=win dual
  2  5 seasons in 2003=04, 2004=05, 2005=06; NOW THEREFORE,
  2  6    BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the Senate
  2  7 honors the members of the Wartburg College wrestling
  2  8 team and their coach, Jim Miller, for their 2006 NCAA
  2  9 Division III Wrestling Championship and on behalf of
  2 10 all Iowa congratulates them on a job well done.
