Senate Resolution 15 - Introduced PAG LIN 1 1 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1 2 BY ZIEMAN 1 3 A Resolution honoring the City of Nashua on its 1 4 sesquicentennial anniversary year. 1 5 WHEREAS, in 1854 pioneer John Hall first built a 1 6 log cabin on the west bank of the Cedar River near 1 7 present day Nashua; and 1 8 WHEREAS, the growing community was formally named 1 9 Nashua in 1857 by two pioneer residents who originally 1 10 came from Nashua, New Hampshire; and 1 11 WHEREAS, Nashua was incorporated in 1869 and 1 12 quickly grew into a bustling commercial center, with a 1 13 Carnegie=endowed library built in 1906; and 1 14 WHEREAS, Nashua is located in northeast Iowa on 1 15 Highway 218 and nestled in a natural valley with Cedar 1 16 Lake and the Red Cedar River; and 1 17 WHEREAS, today Nashua is home to some 1,600 Iowans 1 18 with a proud mixture of German, Irish, English, 1 19 Norwegian, French, and American heritages; and 1 20 WHEREAS, the city of Nashua is celebrating its 1 21 150th anniversary with celebrations scheduled from 1 22 June 16 through June 26, 2005; NOW THEREFORE, 1 23 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the Senate 1 24 recognizes and extends its congratulations to the city 1 25 of Nashua on the city's sesquicentennial year and 1 26 invites all Iowans to make the June celebration in 1 27 Nashua part of their summer vacation plans. 1 28 LSB 3262SS 81 1 29 jr:rj/gg/14 1 30 1
