  1  1                SENATE RESOLUTION NO.    
  1  2           BY  ZAUN, HATCH, McCOY, and DEARDEN
  1  3 A Resolution congratulating the Des Moines Hoover High
  1  4    School Boys' Basketball Team on winning the class 4=A
  1  5    championship at the 2006 Iowa Boys' State Basketball
  1  6    Tournament.
  1  7    WHEREAS, the "Huskies", the Des Moines Hoover High
  1  8 School Boys' Basketball Team, ended the 2005=2006
  1  9 season with no losses and entered the 2006 State
  1 10 Basketball Tournament as the top=ranked class 4=A
  1 11 team; and
  1 12    WHEREAS, on Saturday, March 18, 2006, at the first
  1 13 boys' tournament held in the Wells Fargo Arena, the
  1 14 Huskies won the class 4=A championship at the 2006
  1 15 Iowa Boys' State Basketball Tournament before a crowd
  1 16 of more than 9,000 fans; and
  1 17    WHEREAS, that victory gave the Huskies a phenomenal
  1 18 2005=2006 record of 26 wins and no losses; and
  1 19    WHEREAS, that championship came after a ferocious
  1 20 defensive battle with number three=ranked Pleasant
  1 21 Valley, resulting in a win by the Huskies; and
  1 22    WHEREAS, the Hoover Huskies state championship is
  1 23 the first boys' championship for Hoover High School
  1 24 and for a Des Moines school since a 1978 Roosevelt
  1 25 High School championship; and
  1 26    WHEREAS, Husky senior Ray Miller, a forward who
  1 27 scored a game=high 14 points, was named to the Des
  1 28 Moines Register's Boys' All=State Basketball First
  1 29 Team and senior guard DeAnthony Zanders, scoring four
  1 30 points, was named to the all=state third team; and
  2  1    WHEREAS, both team members Mr. Miller and Mr.
  2  2 Zanders were also named to the 2006 class 4=A All=
  2  3 Tournament Team; and
  2  4    WHEREAS, the Hoover High School cheerleaders,
  2  5 coached by Andrea Eustice, were presented, on behalf
  2  6 of the school, the class 4=A sportsmanship award; NOW
  2  7 THEREFORE,
  2  8    BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the Senate
  2  9 congratulates the members of the Des Moines Hoover
  2 10 High School Boys' Basketball Team:  Chad Boston,
  2 11 Stefon Brown, DeAnthony Zanders, Dylan Imhoff, James
  2 12 Wiggins, Jake Levine, John Maahs, Tremaine Brown,
  2 13 Sasha Francic, David Gross, Ray Miller, Joe Muldoon,
  2 14 Damir Dzafic, Robert Patton, Robert Rockwell, coach
  2 15 Charles Zanders, Sr., assistant coaches Jamel
  2 16 Crawford, Chris McMahon, Pat McMahon, Jason Karaidos,
  2 17 Pat Lawler, Troy Floyd, practice players LeRay
  2 18 Shabazz, James Wilkerson, Dantaze Richardson, Evan
  2 19 Eastman, and Ryan Parrish, and varsity managers Kelsey
  2 20 Jones, Breanna Glenn, Montique Hernandez, and Toiane
  2 21 Johnson for winning the class 4=A championship at the
  2 22 2006 Iowa State Boys' Basketball Tournament and for
  2 23 the honor they have brought to Des Moines and Hoover
  2 24 High School; and
  2 25    BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That, upon adoption, an
  2 26 official copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  2 27 presentation to Coach Zanders and the members of the
  2 28 Hoover Huskies High School Boys' Basketball Team.
