Senate Resolution 128 - Introduced PAG LIN 1 1 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1 2 BY GRONSTAL and IVERSON 1 3 A Resolution to honor the life and work of Norman Borlaug. 1 4 WHEREAS, the contributions of Norman Borlaug to the 1 5 well=being of humanity cannot be overstated, as he has 1 6 through his life's work saved one billion people from 1 7 starvation to preserve 16 million square miles of 1 8 global wildlife habitat; and 1 9 WHEREAS, thanks to his vision and efforts 21st 1 10 century farmers are feeding 6.3 billion people on the 1 11 same farmland area that was inadequate to feed 1 1 12 billion people in 1900; and 1 13 WHEREAS, after winning the Nobel Peace Prize in 1 14 1970, Professor Borlaug continued to work tirelessly, 1 15 spending the next three decades working vigorously to 1 16 bring the Green Revolution to Africa; and 1 17 WHEREAS, as a result of his efforts in Africa, crop 1 18 yields have doubled and tripled and sometimes 1 19 quadrupled what traditional farming practices were 1 20 yielding; and 1 21 WHEREAS, at the age of 92 Professor Borlaug is 1 22 still active and well=recognized for his 1 23 contributions, having just been awarded the United 1 24 States National Science Medal; NOW THEREFORE, 1 25 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the Senate, with 1 26 deepest respect, honors and expresses its thanks to 1 27 Professor Norman Borlaug, a Cresco, Iowa native, who 1 28 has made it his life's work to feed the hungry and 1 29 uplift the poor, and in doing so has made the 21st 1 30 century a time of hope for billions of people. 2 1 LSB 6617SS 81 2 2 jr:rj/cf/24 1
