  1  1                SENATE RESOLUTION NO. ___

  1  3 A Resolution honoring the Main Street Iowa Program on
  1  4    its 20th anniversary.
  1  5    WHEREAS, the Main Street Four Point Approach was
  1  6 conceived in 1977 by the National Trust for Historic
  1  7 Preservation in Washington, D.C., and in 1985, the
  1  8 Iowa General Assembly adopted the National Main Street
  1  9 Center's approach to downtown revitalization by
  1 10 approving the establishment of the Main Street Iowa
  1 11 Program within the Iowa Department of Economic
  1 12 Development; and
  1 13    WHEREAS, 48 Iowa Main Street communities have been
  1 14 active from 1986 to the present, and, currently, there
  1 15 are 34 active Main Street communities in Iowa; and
  1 16    WHEREAS, on April 28, 2006, the Main Street Iowa
  1 17 Program will celebrate its 20th anniversary at the
  1 18 Annual Main Street Awards ceremony, and recognize
  1 19 outstanding volunteers and the "best of the best" in
  1 20 design, organization, promotion, and economic
  1 21 restructuring; and
  1 22    WHEREAS, in addition to the award ceremony,
  1 23 preparations are underway for a variety of activities
  1 24 to recognize Iowa community downtown revitalization
  1 25 efforts that have taken place over the last two
  1 26 decades;  NOW THEREFORE,
  1 27    BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the Senate
  1 28 congratulates the Main Street Iowa Program as it
  1 29 celebrates its 20th anniversary and thanks those who
  1 30 have worked countless hours to make this program a
  2  1 resounding success.
