Senate Resolution 111 - Introduced
PAG LIN
1 1 SENATE RESOLUTION NO.
1 2 BY IVERSON
1 3 A Resolution urging the United States Congress to formulate
1 4 a sound energy policy that will provide for the long=term
1 5 economic and national security needs of the United States
1 6 of America.
1 7 WHEREAS, a constant, dependable supply of
1 8 affordable energy is absolutely essential to the
1 9 continued success and well=being of our nation; and
1 10 WHEREAS, the provision of adequate energy supplies
1 11 is dependent on a rational energy policy which
1 12 promotes conservation, prevents unreasonable taxation
1 13 that would inhibit the competitiveness of American
1 14 energy producers against foreign=owned firms, and
1 15 allows the full development of domestic energy sources
1 16 in an ecologically sound manner; and
1 17 WHEREAS, the windfall profits tax has proven itself
1 18 to be an impediment to domestic energy production, a
1 19 barrier to the competitiveness of American energy
1 20 companies in the world market, and an unfair penalty
1 21 on investors; and
1 22 WHEREAS, the windfall profits tax is a direct cause
1 23 of unnecessarily high retail energy prices and
1 24 increases dependence on foreign oil; and
1 25 WHEREAS, our national security and economic growth
1 26 is imperiled by our growing dependence on foreign
1 27 energy supplies that could be reduced by the
1 28 development of a wide array of domestic energy
1 29 sources; and
1 30 WHEREAS, the exploration and development of all
2 1 viable energy reserved in the United States is
2 2 critical not only to our national economy but also to
2 3 the redevelopment of the Gulf Coast economies
2 4 decimated by natural disaster; and
2 5 WHEREAS, the technology exists to develop domestic
2 6 energy reserves in a manner that is compatible with
2 7 the highest ecological standards; NOW THEREFORE,
2 8 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the Senate
2 9 respectfully urges the Congress of the United States
2 10 to move forward with all due haste to establish a
2 11 national energy policy that incorporates the policies
2 12 described in this Resolution to ensure an adequate
2 13 supply of energy to our nation now and for generations
2 14 to come; and
2 15 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Secretary of the
2 16 Senate shall forward copies of this Resolution to the
2 17 President of the United States, the President of the
2 18 Senate of the United States, the Speaker of the House
2 19 of Representatives of the United States, and the
2 20 members of Iowa's congressional delegation.
