Senate Resolution 111 - Introduced PAG LIN 1 1 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1 2 BY IVERSON 1 3 A Resolution urging the United States Congress to formulate 1 4 a sound energy policy that will provide for the long=term 1 5 economic and national security needs of the United States 1 6 of America. 1 7 WHEREAS, a constant, dependable supply of 1 8 affordable energy is absolutely essential to the 1 9 continued success and well=being of our nation; and 1 10 WHEREAS, the provision of adequate energy supplies 1 11 is dependent on a rational energy policy which 1 12 promotes conservation, prevents unreasonable taxation 1 13 that would inhibit the competitiveness of American 1 14 energy producers against foreign=owned firms, and 1 15 allows the full development of domestic energy sources 1 16 in an ecologically sound manner; and 1 17 WHEREAS, the windfall profits tax has proven itself 1 18 to be an impediment to domestic energy production, a 1 19 barrier to the competitiveness of American energy 1 20 companies in the world market, and an unfair penalty 1 21 on investors; and 1 22 WHEREAS, the windfall profits tax is a direct cause 1 23 of unnecessarily high retail energy prices and 1 24 increases dependence on foreign oil; and 1 25 WHEREAS, our national security and economic growth 1 26 is imperiled by our growing dependence on foreign 1 27 energy supplies that could be reduced by the 1 28 development of a wide array of domestic energy 1 29 sources; and 1 30 WHEREAS, the exploration and development of all 2 1 viable energy reserved in the United States is 2 2 critical not only to our national economy but also to 2 3 the redevelopment of the Gulf Coast economies 2 4 decimated by natural disaster; and 2 5 WHEREAS, the technology exists to develop domestic 2 6 energy reserves in a manner that is compatible with 2 7 the highest ecological standards; NOW THEREFORE, 2 8 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the Senate 2 9 respectfully urges the Congress of the United States 2 10 to move forward with all due haste to establish a 2 11 national energy policy that incorporates the policies 2 12 described in this Resolution to ensure an adequate 2 13 supply of energy to our nation now and for generations 2 14 to come; and 2 15 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Secretary of the 2 16 Senate shall forward copies of this Resolution to the 2 17 President of the United States, the President of the 2 18 Senate of the United States, the Speaker of the House 2 19 of Representatives of the United States, and the 2 20 members of Iowa's congressional delegation. 2 21 LSB 6461XS 81 2 22 jr:nh/cf/24 1
