  1  3                  PUTNEY, and MCKIBBEN
  1  4 A Resolution welcoming the Whirlpool Corporation to
  1  5    the State of Iowa and offering support and
  1  6    assistance for Whirlpool's success and future in
  1  7    Iowa.
  1  8    WHEREAS, in 1893 in Newton, Iowa, the entrepreneur
  1  9 F.L. Maytag started the company that would become the
  1 10 Maytag Corporation known worldwide for appliances of
  1 11 the highest quality and innovation; and
  1 12    WHEREAS, the city of Newton and the State of Iowa
  1 13 have a rich, 113=year history with the Maytag
  1 14 Corporation as an outstanding employer and corporate
  1 15 citizen; and
  1 16    WHEREAS, generations of a highly educated workforce
  1 17 of loyal men and women dedicated themselves to
  1 18 building a brand heritage for Maytag and its family of
  1 19 brands that is unmatched in the marketplace; and
  1 20    WHEREAS, the shareholders of the Maytag Corporation
  1 21 have elected to accept the Whirlpool Corporation's
  1 22 offer to purchase the Maytag Corporation, adding over
  1 23 $4.7 billion in annual sales to the Whirlpool
  1 24 organization with the purchase; and
  1 25    WHEREAS, the continued operations of the merged
  1 26 organizations within the State of Iowa is of great
  1 27 importance to the citizens of Iowa; NOW THEREFORE,
  1 28    BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That on behalf of the
  1 29 people of the State of Iowa, the Senate does hereby
  1 30 welcome to the cities of Amana, Newton, and North
  2  1 Liberty and to the State of Iowa, the Whirlpool
  2  2 Corporation, and eagerly stands ready to assist the
  2  3 Whirlpool Corporation in any way feasible to ensure
  2  4 its success in the global market with operations in
  2  5 Iowa.
