Senate Resolution 103 - Introduced PAG LIN 1 1 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. ___ 1 2 BY WARNSTADT, WIECK, and MULDER 1 3 A Resolution requesting that the United States Postal 1 4 Service retain the area mail processing center in 1 5 Sioux City, Iowa. 1 6 WHEREAS, the current area mail processing center in 1 7 Sioux City, Iowa, serves the fourth largest city in 1 8 Iowa and employs 150 people; and 1 9 WHEREAS, the United States Postal Service has 1 10 announced a study examining the feasibility of 1 11 centralizing Sioux City's mail processing in Sioux 1 12 Falls, South Dakota; and 1 13 WHEREAS, currently the mail service in Sioux City 1 14 and the surrounding area is very prompt, providing 1 15 one=day service locally and national service in two 1 16 days; and 1 17 WHEREAS, the people of the Siouxland area are 1 18 justifiably proud of their 150=year=old postmark; and 1 19 WHEREAS, loss of the Sioux City area mail 1 20 processing center would degrade service to two days 1 21 for the Siouxland area and to three days for other 1 22 parts of the country; NOW THEREFORE, 1 23 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the Senate 1 24 requests that the United States Postal Service retain 1 25 the area mail processing center in Sioux City, Iowa; 1 26 and 1 27 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this 1 28 resolution be sent to the Postmaster General and the 1 29 Chief Executive Officer of the United States Postal 1 30 Service, to the Hawkeye District Manager of the United 2 1 States Postal Service, and to the Vice President of 2 2 Operations of the United States Postal Service. 2 3 LSB 5831SS 81 2 4 jr:rj/gg/14 1
