1 An Act directing the department of education to conduct a study
2 of parental involvement programs and to develop a parental
3 involvement liaison project and other mechanisms to increase
4 personal responsibility and parental involvement in schools
5 across the state.

1 1 Section 1. DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION == PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT
1 2 STUDY. The department of education shall conduct a study of
1 3 successful parental involvement programs used by school
1 4 districts within the state and nationally. The department
1 5 shall use the information gained from the study to develop a
1 6 parental involvement liaison pilot project in which school
1 7 districts and schools throughout the state may apply to
1 8 participate. The department shall also use the information
1 9 gained from the study to develop mechanisms that school
1 10 districts and schools may use to increase personal
1 11 responsibility and parental involvement. The department shall
1 12 determine a timeline for the implementation of a parental
1 13 involvement liaison pilot project and other mechanisms as
1 14 identified, the resources necessary, measures to publicize the
1 15 project and mechanisms, and shall submit its findings and
1 16 recommendations in a report to the chairpersons and ranking
1 17 members of the senate and house of representatives committees
1 18 on education by January 15, 2007.
1 19 EXPLANATION
1 20 This bill directs the department of education to conduct a
1 21 study of successful parental involvement programs used by
1 22 school districts within the state and nationally. The
1 23 information gained is to be used by the department to develop
1 24 a parental involvement liaison pilot project and other
1 25 mechanisms that school districts and schools throughout the
1 26 state may apply to participate in or to use to increase
1 27 personal responsibility and parental involvement. The
1 28 department must determine an implementation timeline, the
1 29 resources necessary, and measures to publicize the project and
1 30 mechanisms. By January 15, 2007, the department must submit
1 31 its findings and recommendations to the chairpersons and
1 32 ranking members of the senate and house of representatives
1 33 committees on education.
