1 1 Section 1. NEW SECTION. 461A.47A MILITARY FAMILY SUPPORT
1 2 GROUP USE OF STATE PARK OR RECREATION AREA FACILITIES.
1 3 1. For the purposes of this section:
1 4 a. "Dependent" means a spouse or child of a service member
1 5 or any other person dependent upon the service member for
1 6 support.
1 7 b. "Military family support group" means a group of
1 8 service members or dependents organized to provide mutual
1 9 support and designated as such by the adjutant general or the
1 10 adjutant general's designee.
1 11 c. "Service member" means a member of an Iowa unit,
1 12 detachment, or organization of the army national guard of the
1 13 United States or the air national guard of the United States
1 14 as those forces are defined in 10 U.S.C. } 101, or a member of
1 15 an Iowa=based reserve unit of the army, navy, air force, or
1 16 marine corps as those forces are defined in 10 U.S.C. } 101.
1 17 d. "State park or recreation area facility" means any
1 18 state=owned campsite, cabin, lodge, yurt, shelter, or beach
1 19 house within a state park or recreation area which is
1 20 regularly available for rent for use by the public.
1 21 2. A military family support group may use any state park
1 22 or recreation area facility free of charge for one day or
1 23 night of each calendar year.
1 24 3. The department shall establish rules for administering
1 25 this section.
1 26 EXPLANATION
1 27 This bill allows a military family support group to use any
1 28 state park or recreation area facility free of charge for one
1 29 day or night of each calendar year. The bill defines a
1 30 "military family support group" as a group including members
1 31 of Iowa=based national guard and reserve units of all branches
1 32 of the military and the dependents of such service members. A
1 33 military family support group may use, free of charge, any
1 34 state=owned campsite, cabin, lodge, yurt, shelter, or beach
1 35 house which is regularly available for rent by the public.
