Section 331.904, subsection 1, Code 2005, is 1 2 amended to read as follows: 1 3 1. The annual base salary of the first and second deputy 1 4 officer of the office of auditor, treasurer, and recorder, and 1 5 the deputy in charge of the motor vehicle registration and 1 6 title division shall each be an amount not to exceedeighty1 7 eighty=five percent of the annual salary of the deputy's 1 8 principal officer. In offices where more than two deputies 1 9 are required, the annual base salary of each additional deputy 1 10 shall bepaidan amount not to exceedseventy=fiveeighty 1 11 percent of the principal officer's salary. The amount of the 1 12 annual base salary of each deputy shall be certified by the 1 13 principal officer to the board and, if a deputy's annual base 1 14 salary does not exceed the limitations specified in this 1 15 subsection, the board shall certify the annual base salary to 1 16 the auditor. The board shall not certify a deputy's annual 1 17 base salary which exceeds the limitations of this subsection. 1 18 As used in this subsection, "base salary" means the basic 1 19 compensation excluding overtime pay, longevity pay, shift 1 20 differential pay, or other supplement pay and fringe benefits. 1 21 Sec. 2. APPLICABILITY DATE. This Act applies to county 1 22 budgets for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2007, and all 1 23 subsequent fiscal years. 1 24 EXPLANATION 1 25 This bill provides that the annual base salary of first and 1 26 second deputies in the offices of county auditor, treasurer, 1 27 and recorder and the deputy in charge of the motor vehicle 1 28 registration and title division shall not exceed 85 percent of 1 29 the applicable principal officer's salary. The bill also 1 30 provides that if any of these county offices has more than two 1 31 deputies, the annual base salary of each additional deputy 1 32 shall not exceed 80 percent of the principal officer's salary. 1 33 The bill defines "base salary" to mean the same as defined for 1 34 deputy sheriffs in the office of county sheriff. 1 35 The bill applies to county budgets for the fiscal year 2 1 beginning July 1, 2007, and all subsequent fiscal years. 2 2 LSB 5866SV 81 2 3 sc:nh/je/5
