  1  1    Section 1.  Section 123.47, Code Supplement 2005, is
  1  2 amended by adding the following new subsection:
  1  3    NEW SUBSECTION.  7.  In addition to any other applicable
  1  4 penalty, the court may order the state department of
  1  5 transportation to suspend the driver's license or nonresident
  1  6 operating privilege of a person who is of legal age, other
  1  7 than a licensee or permittee, who is convicted of selling,
  1  8 giving, or otherwise supplying alcoholic liquor, wine, or beer
  1  9 to a person who is under legal age in violation of subsection
  1 10 1, for thirty days for a first offense and for a period not to
  1 11 exceed one year for a second or subsequent offense.
  1 12                           EXPLANATION
  1 13    This bill relates to the provision of alcoholic beverages
  1 14 to persons under legal age and driver's license suspensions.
  1 15    The bill provides that, in addition to any other applicable
  1 16 penalty under Code section 123.47, the court may order the
  1 17 state department of transportation to suspend the driver's
  1 18 license or nonresident operating privilege of a person who is
  1 19 of legal age, other than a licensee or permittee, who is
  1 20 convicted of selling, giving, or otherwise supplying alcoholic
  1 21 liquor, wine, or beer to a person who is under legal age for
  1 22 thirty days for a first offense and for a period not to exceed
  1 23 one year for a second or subsequent offense.
