  1 1 Section 1. Section 321.285, subsection 6, paragraph a,
1 2 Code Supplement 2005, is amended to read as follows:
1 3 a. Notwithstanding any other speed restrictions, the speed
1 4 limit for all vehicular traffic on fully controlled=access,
1 5 divided, multilaned highways is sixty=five miles per hour.
1 6 However, the speed limit for all vehicular traffic on highways
1 7 that are part of the interstate road system, as defined in
1 8 section 306.3, and the segment of United States highway 20
1 9 between interstate 35 and the city limits of Cedar Falls, is
1 10 seventy miles per hour. The department may establish a speed
1 11 limit of sixty=five miles per hour on certain divided,
1 12 multilaned highways not otherwise described in this paragraph.
  1 13 EXPLANATION
1 14 This bill increases the speed limit from 65 miles per hour
1 15 to 70 miles per hour on the portion of U.S. highway 20 between
1 16 interstate 35 and the city of Cedar Falls. Current law
1 17 provides a 65=mile=per=hour speed limit for all divided,
1 18 multilaned highways other than interstates and a 70=mile=per=
1 19 hour speed limit for interstate highways.
