  1 An Act relating to the salary of certain deputy officers in the
  2    offices of county auditor, treasurer, and recorder and
  3    providing an applicability date.

  1  1    Section 1.  Section 331.904, subsection 1, Code 2005, is
  1  2 amended to read as follows:
  1  3    1.  The annual salary of the first and second deputy
  1  4 officer of the office of auditor, treasurer, and recorder, and
  1  5 the deputy in charge of the motor vehicle registration and
  1  6 title division, and the deputy in charge of county issuance of
  1  7 driver's licenses shall each be an amount not to exceed eighty
  1  8 ninety percent of the annual salary of the deputy's principal
  1  9 officer.  In offices where more than two deputies are
  1 10 required, each additional deputy shall be paid an amount not
  1 11 to exceed seventy=five percent of the principal officer's
  1 12 salary.  The amount of the annual salary of each deputy shall
  1 13 be certified by the principal officer to the board and, if a
  1 14 deputy's salary does not exceed the limitations specified in
  1 15 this subsection, the board shall certify the salary to the
  1 16 auditor.  The board shall not certify a deputy's salary which
  1 17 exceeds the limitations of this subsection.
  1 18    Sec. 2.  APPLICABILITY DATE.  This Act applies to county
  1 19 budgets for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2007, and all
  1 20 subsequent fiscal years.
  1 21                           EXPLANATION
  1 22    This bill provides that the annual salary of first and
  1 23 second deputies in the offices of county auditor, treasurer,
  1 24 and recorder and the deputy in charge of the motor vehicle and
  1 25 registration division shall be 90 percent of the applicable
  1 26 principal officer's salary.  The bill adds the deputy in
  1 27 charge of county issuance of driver's licenses to the group of
  1 28 deputies whose salary shall be 90 percent of the principal
  1 29 officer's salary.
  1 30    The bill applies to county budgets for the fiscal year
  1 31 beginning July 1, 2007, and all subsequent fiscal years.
