  1 An Act relating to lifetime hunting or fishing licenses for
  2    veterans who were disabled or were prisoners of war during
  3    their military service and providing for fees.

  1  1    Section 1.  Section 483A.24, subsection 13, Code Supplement
  1  2 2005, is amended to read as follows:
  1  3    13.  Upon payment of the fee of thirty dollars for a
  1  4 lifetime hunting and fishing combined license, or payment of
  1  5 the fee of sixteen dollars for either a lifetime fishing
  1  6 license or lifetime hunting license, the department shall
  1  7 issue a lifetime hunting and fishing combined license,
  1  8 lifetime fishing license, or lifetime hunting license, as
  1  9 applicable, to a resident of Iowa who is a veteran, as defined
  1 10 in section 35.1, or served in the armed forces of the United
  1 11 States for a minimum aggregate of ninety days of active
  1 12 federal service and who was disabled or was a prisoner of war
  1 13 during that veteran's military service.  The department shall
  1 14 prepare an application to be used by a person requesting a
  1 15 lifetime hunting and fishing combined license, lifetime
  1 16 fishing license, or lifetime hunting license under this
  1 17 subsection.  The department of veterans affairs shall assist
  1 18 the department in verifying the status or claims of applicants
  1 19 under this subsection.  As used in this subsection, "disabled"
  1 20 means entitled to compensation under the United States Code,
  1 21 Title 38, ch. 11.
  1 22                           EXPLANATION
  1 23    This bill allows a resident who is a veteran, as defined in
  1 24 Code section 35.1, or served in the armed forces of the United
  1 25 States for a minimum aggregate of 90 days of active federal
  1 26 service and who was disabled or was a prisoner of war during
  1 27 that military service, to purchase either a lifetime fishing
  1 28 license or a lifetime hunting license for $16.
