  1  1          SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. ___

  1  3 A Concurrent Resolution urging the United States
  1  4    Congress to appropriate funding for the Historic
  1  5    Barn Preservation Act.
  1  6    WHEREAS, historic preservation provides
  1  7 opportunities to rapidly employ persons in diverse
  1  8 areas of the economy; revitalize neighborhoods,
  1  9 communities, and rural areas; entice nationwide
  1 10 private capital investment; and foster heritage
  1 11 tourism; and
  1 12    WHEREAS, the family farm is the foundation of rural
  1 13 America and the barn is an integral part of these
  1 14 family farms; and
  1 15    WHEREAS, historic barns are becoming national
  1 16 treasures and rehabilitating and repairing historic
  1 17 barns as necessary, to preserve the barns'
  1 18 functionality and to preserve the rural landscape,
  1 19 provides benefits to farmers, as well as to the
  1 20 communities and economic vitality of the areas in
  1 21 which the barns are located; and
  1 22    WHEREAS, Governor Tom Vilsack has proclaimed 2005
  1 23 as the "Year of the Barn and the Family Farm" to
  1 24 celebrate our agricultural heritage as well as
  1 25 recognize the need to document our historic barns; and
  1 26    WHEREAS, Congress acted in 2002 to establish a
  1 27 Historic Barn Preservation Program; NOW THEREFORE,
  1 28    BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, THE HOUSE OF
  1 29 REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, That the Iowa General
  1 30 Assembly urges the appropriations committees of the
  2  1 United States Senate and the House of Representatives
  2  2 to appropriate such funds as necessary to implement
  2  3 the Historic Barn Preservation Act in the federal
  2  4 fiscal year 2005=2006; and
  2  5    BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this
  2  6 resolution be sent by the Secretary of the Senate to
  2  7 the Iowa congressional delegation, the United States
  2  8 Senate, and the United States House of
  2  9 Representatives; and
  2 10    BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this
  2 11 resolution be sent to the Honorable Senator Ted
  2 12 Stevens, Chairman of the United States Senate
  2 13 Committee on Appropriations, and to the Honorable
  2 14 Congressman C. W. Bill Young, Chairman of the United
  2 15 States House of Representatives Committee on
  2 16 Appropriations.
