  1  1          SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. ___
  1  2                       BY  HANCOCK
  1  3 A Concurrent Resolution requesting the legislative
  1  4    council to establish an interim committee to study
  1  5    emergency services in the state.
  1  6    WHEREAS, emergency services are vital to the health
  1  7 and safety of Iowans; and
  1  8    WHEREAS, the organizational structure and
  1  9 governance of emergency services is complex, involving
  1 10 many units of state and local government; and
  1 11    WHEREAS, the funding streams available for
  1 12 emergency services are varied; NOW THEREFORE,
  1 13    BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, THE HOUSE OF
  1 14 REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, That the legislative
  1 15 council is requested to establish a committee to study
  1 16 emergency services in the state during the 2006
  1 17 legislative interim; and
  1 18    BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the interim committee
  1 19 should be directed to receive input from the
  1 20 department of public defense, division of homeland
  1 21 security, departments of human services, public
  1 22 health, and public safety, including the state fire
  1 23 marshal, and representatives of emergency services
  1 24 providers, including but not limited to the Iowa
  1 25 Firemen's Association, Iowa Fire Chiefs Association,
  1 26 Iowa Association of Professional Fire Chiefs, and Iowa
  1 27 Professional Fire Fighters, Iowa Emergency Medical
  1 28 Services Association, and emergency room physicians;
  1 29 and
  1 30    BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the interim committee
  2  1 should be directed to expeditiously complete its study
  2  2 and issue findings and make recommendations regarding
  2  3 the governance, structure, and funding of the state's
  2  4 emergency services for consideration during the 2007
  2  5 legislative session.
