1 1 Section 1. Section 331.606A, Code 2005, is amended to read
1 2 as follows:
1 3 331.606A DOCUMENT CONTENT == USE OF SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER
1 4 PROHIBITED == EXCEPTIONS.
1 5 The preparer of a document shall not include an
1 6 individual's federal social security number in a document that
1 7 is prepared for recording in the office of county recorder and
1 8 the recorder may delete a federal social security number that
1 9 is incorrectly included in a document that is prepared for
1 10 recording. This section does not apply to a preparer of a
1 11 state or federal tax lien or a military separation or
1 12 discharge record that is prepared for recording in the office
1 13 of county recorder. If a military separation or discharge
1 14 record is recorded in the office of the county recorder, the
1 15 military separation or discharge record shall not be
1 16 accessible through the internet.
1 17 EXPLANATION
1 18 Current law provides that documents filed with the county
1 19 recorder shall not include a social security number, unless
1 20 that document is a state or federal tax lien or a military
1 21 separation or discharge record that is prepared for recording
1 22 in the office of county recorder. This bill allows the
1 23 recorder to delete a social security number if a document is
1 24 submitted with such number improperly included.
