  1 An Act relating to bioscience financial assistance and making an

  3 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:

  1  1    Section 1.  APPROPRIATION.  There is appropriated to the
  1  2 department of economic development from the general fund of
  1  3 the state for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2006, and
  1  4 ending June 30, 2007, sixteen million four hundred twenty=five
  1  5 thousand dollars to be used for purposes of providing
  1  6 financial assistance to a single bioscience development
  1  7 organization determined by the department to possess expertise
  1  8 in the promotion and commercialization of biotechnology
  1  9 entrepreneurship.  The recipient of the financial assistance
  1 10 shall use the moneys for purposes of advancing the technology
  1 11 platforms of bioeconomy, advanced food and feed, animal
  1 12 systems, integrated post=geometric medicine, integrated drug
  1 13 discovery, integrated biosecurity, and biomedical imaging.
  1 14                           EXPLANATION
  1 15    This bill relates to bioscience financial assistance and
  1 16 making appropriations.
  1 17    For the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2006, the bill
  1 18 appropriates $16.425 million to the department of economic
  1 19 development from the general fund of the state for purposes of
  1 20 providing financial assistance to a single bioscience
  1 21 development organization determined by the department to
  1 22 possess expertise in the promotion and commercialization of
  1 23 biotechnology entrepreneurship.  The bill requires the
  1 24 financial assistance to be used for certain bioscience=related
  1 25 platforms.
