  1  1    Section 1.  Section 483A.24, subsection 13, Code Supplement
  1  2 2005, is amended to read as follows:
  1  3    13.  Upon payment of the fee of thirty dollars for a
  1  4 lifetime fishing license or lifetime hunting and fishing
  1  5 combined license, the department shall issue a lifetime
  1  6 fishing license or lifetime hunting and fishing combined
  1  7 license to a resident of Iowa who is a veteran, as defined in
  1  8 section 35.1, or served in the armed forces of the United
  1  9 States for a minimum aggregate of ninety days of active
  1 10 federal service and who was disabled or was a prisoner of war
  1 11 during that veteran's military service.  The department shall
  1 12 prepare an application to be used by a person requesting a
  1 13 lifetime fishing license or lifetime hunting and fishing
  1 14 combined license under this subsection.  The department of
  1 15 veterans affairs shall assist the department in verifying the
  1 16 status or claims of applicants under this subsection.  As used
  1 17 in this subsection, "disabled" means entitled to compensation
  1 18 under the United States Code, Title 38, ch. 11.
  1 19                           EXPLANATION
  1 20    This bill allows a resident who is a veteran, as defined in
  1 21 Code section 35.1, or who served in the armed forces of the
  1 22 United States for a minimum aggregate of 90 days of active
  1 23 federal service and who was disabled or was a prisoner of war
  1 24 during that military service, to purchase a lifetime fishing
  1 25 license or a lifetime hunting and fishing combined license for
  1 26 $30.  Current law allows only those who served in the armed
  1 27 forces for 90 days or more and were disabled or a prisoner of
  1 28 war to purchase a lifetime hunting and fishing combined
  1 29 license.
