1 1 Section 1. STATE BOARD OF REGENTS UNIVERSITY ADMISSIONS
1 2 STUDY. The state board of regents shall conduct a study
1 3 relating to the admission requirements common to the three
1 4 state universities, including administrative rule 681 IAC
1 5 1.1(1), which provides that graduates of approved Iowa high
1 6 schools who have the subject matter backgrounds as recommended
1 7 by each university and who rank in the upper one=half of their
1 8 graduating class will be admitted. The state board shall
1 9 submit a report to the senate and house of representatives
1 10 standing committees on education by January 8, 2007, regarding
1 11 the findings and recommendations of the study.
1 12 EXPLANATION
1 13 This bill directs the state board of regents to conduct a
1 14 study of its admission requirements common to the three state
1 15 universities, including its policy of admitting Iowa high
1 16 school graduates who rank in the top 50 percent of their high
1 17 school graduating classes. The board must submit a report of
1 18 its findings and recommendations to the senate and house of
1 19 representatives standing committees on education by January 8,
1 20 2007.
