  1  1    Section 1.  Section 423.3, Code 2005, is amended by adding
  1  2 the following new subsection:
  1  3    NEW SUBSECTION.  68A.  The sales price from the sale of a
  1  4 computer if all of the following apply:
  1  5    a.  The sales price of the computer is less than one
  1  6 thousand dollars.
  1  7    b.  The sale takes place during a period beginning at 12:01
  1  8 a.m. on the first Friday in August and ending at midnight on
  1  9 the following Saturday.
  1 10                           EXPLANATION
  1 11    This bill exempts the sales of computers from the sales tax
  1 12 during the period beginning the first Friday in August and
  1 13 ending on the following Saturday if the sales price of the
  1 14 computer is less than $1,000.  A computer is defined for sales
  1 15 tax purposes as an electronic device that accepts data in
  1 16 digital or similar form and uses this data for a result based
  1 17 upon a sequence of instructions.
