  1  1    Section 1.  Section 455B.190A, Code 2005, is amended by
  1  2 adding the following new subsection:
  1  3    NEW SUBSECTION.  8.  A geothermal heating unit shall only
  1  4 be installed by a certified well contractor that has been
  1  5 certified by the department to install such units.  The
  1  6 department shall certify a person to install geothermal
  1  7 heating units after all of the following are satisfied:
  1  8    a.  The person is certified as a well contractor.
  1  9    b.  The person has spent at least two years under the
  1 10 direct supervision of a certified well contractor.
  1 11                           EXPLANATION
  1 12    This bill provides that a geothermal heating unit shall
  1 13 only be installed by a certified well contractor.  The bill
  1 14 requires the department of natural resources to certify a
  1 15 person to install geothermal units if the person is certified
  1 16 as a well contractor and the person has spent at least two
  1 17 years under the direct supervision of a certified well
  1 18 contractor.
