  1  4     HOFFMAN, EICHHORN, GRANZOW, CHAMBERS, UPMEYER,
  1  5     RAECKER, BOAL, ANDERSON, LALK, DE BOEF, SANDS,
  1  6 RASMUSSEN, S. OLSON, JENKINS, DOLECHECK, GIPP, JACOBS,
  1  7    HEATON, RAYHONS, BAUDLER, FREEMAN, JONES, HUTTER,
  1  8                 HUSEMAN, and WILDERDYKE
  1  9 A Resolution urging the United States Senators from
  1 10    the State of Iowa to support President Bush's
  1 11    Nominees to the federal courts and to the United
  1 12    States Supreme Court.
  1 13    WHEREAS, President Bush has the authority pursuant
  1 14 to Article II, section 2, of the United States
  1 15 Constitution to nominate and appoint judges to the
  1 16 federal courts and justices to the United States
  1 17 Supreme Court, subject to Senate confirmation; and
  1 18    WHEREAS, certain federal judges have frustrated the
  1 19 constitutional structure which prescribes that laws
  1 20 shall be determined by elected legislatures; and
  1 21    WHEREAS, President Bush has stated his commitment
  1 22 to the appointment of federal judges who will strictly
  1 23 interpret the United States Constitution; and
  1 24    WHEREAS, in the past, Senate votes on several of
  1 25 President Bush's judicial nominees, many of whom were
  1 26 recommended for appointment by the United States
  1 27 Senate Judiciary Committee, failed to occur; NOW
  1 28 THEREFORE,
  1 29    BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
  1 30 That the House of Representatives urges Iowa's elected
  2  1 senators in the United States Congress to support and
  2  2 move quickly to confirm President Bush's nominees to
  2  3 the federal courts and to the United States Supreme
  2  4 Court; and
  2  5    BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this
  2  6 Resolution be transmitted to the members of Iowa's
  2  7 congressional delegation in the United States Senate.
