  1  1                HOUSE RESOLUTION NO.    
  1  2              BY  RANTS, WENDT, and WHITEAD
  1  3 A Resolution honoring the Morningside College Women's
  1  4    Basketball Team on their national championship.
  1  5    WHEREAS, Morningside College of Sioux City has, for
  1  6 the second consecutive time, won the women's
  1  7 basketball National Association of Intercollegiate
  1  8 Athletics (NAIA) Division II national championship in
  1  9 Sioux City's Tyson Events Center/Gateway Arena; and
  1 10    WHEREAS, in that title game the Morningside
  1 11 Mustangs once again were challenged by the number=
  1 12 one=ranked Cedarville University Yellow Jackets,
  1 13 winning by a score of 75 to 65 and snapping the Yellow
  1 14 Jackets' 22=game winning streak; and
  1 15    WHEREAS, this second NAIA national championship was
  1 16 the capstone to the 2004=2005 season in which the
  1 17 Morningside Mustangs finished with a sizzling 35=3
  1 18 record, setting a school record for victories in a
  1 19 season; and
  1 20    WHEREAS, senior guard Megan Cloud, from Sioux City,
  1 21 scored a game=high 28 points for the national
  1 22 champions, including 18 points in the first half; and
  1 23    WHEREAS, Megan was named the national tournament's
  1 24 Most Valuable Player for the second year in a row and
  1 25 was joined on the all=tournament team by teammate
  1 26 senior guard and Sioux City native Brittany Carper,
  1 27 who scored 12 points; and
  1 28    WHEREAS, Megan has been named the NAIA Division II
  1 29 Women's Basketball Player of the Year; and
  1 30    WHEREAS, Megan has been named to headline the 2005
  2  1 NAIA Division II Women's Basketball All=America team
  2  2 and Brittany has been named to the All=America second=
  2  3 team; and
  2  4    WHEREAS, teammates Jill Pudenz, Vanessa Hasley,
  2  5 Jennifer Francescon, Lindsey Chettinger, and Beth
  2  6 Watson all added points to seal the victory; and
  2  7    WHEREAS, Morningside College coach Jamie Sale, with
  2  8 a 93=42 record, has been named the NAIA Division II
  2  9 National Coach of the Year for the second consecutive
  2 10 season; NOW THEREFORE,
  2 11    BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
  2 12 That the House of Representatives congratulates the
  2 13 members of the Morningside College Women's Basketball
  2 14 Team and their coach for the truly remarkable
  2 15 achievement of winning a second straight NAIA Division
  2 16 II Women's Basketball National Championship and thanks
  2 17 them for the honor and recognition they have brought
  2 18 to Morningside College and to the State of Iowa; and
  2 19    BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That, upon adoption, an
  2 20 official copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  2 21 presentation to Coach Jamie Sale and the members of
  2 22 the Morningside College Women's Basketball Team.
