  1  1                HOUSE RESOLUTION NO.

  1  3 A Resolution honoring the Ankeny High School Girls'
  1  4    Basketball Team.
  1  5    WHEREAS, the Ankeny "Hawkettes" High School Girls'
  1  6 Basketball Team completed the 2004=2005 season with an
  1  7 impressive 27=0 record, ranked first in the class 4A
  1  8 division by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union;
  1  9 and
  1 10    WHEREAS, even that remarkable record was topped on
  1 11 Saturday, March 12, 2005, when the Ankeny Hawkettes
  1 12 became the first Iowa high school girls' team to win
  1 13 four consecutive crowns since a state=sanctioned
  1 14 tournament began in 1926; and
  1 15    WHEREAS, that victory gave the Ankeny Hawkettes a
  1 16 sizzling record of 44 wins in consecutive games, 66 in
  1 17 a row against Iowa opponents; and
  1 18    WHEREAS, the 2005 tournament victory was preceded
  1 19 in December 2004 by a victory in one of the nation's
  1 20 most prestigious tournaments, the Kroger Holiday
  1 21 Classic in Pickerington, Ohio, against three out=of=
  1 22 state teams; and
  1 23    WHEREAS, the core members of the team have played
  1 24 together since the 3rd and 4th grades, winning 2nd
  1 25 place in the Great American Shootout in Minneapolis,
  1 26 Minnesota, after their 7th grade year; and
  1 27    WHEREAS, the Ankeny Hawkettes are now ranked the
  1 28 number 1 girls' high school basketball team in the
  1 29 nation in the USA Today Super 25; and
  1 30    WHEREAS, the Ankeny Hawkettes currently own more
  2  1 overall titles, nine, than any other school in Iowa,
  2  2 and coach Scott DeJong, can claim six of them; NOW
  2  3 THEREFORE,
  2  4    BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
  2  5 That the House of Representatives congratulates the
  2  6 members of the Ankeny High School Girls' Basketball
  2  7 Team and their coach, Scott DeJong, for a decade=long
  2  8 string of sports achievements and thanks them for the
  2  9 honor and recognition they have brought to Ankeny and
  2 10 to the State of Iowa; and
  2 11    BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That, upon adoption, an
  2 12 official copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  2 13 presentation to Coach DeJong and the members of the
  2 14 Ankeny "Hawkettes" High School Girls' Basketball Team.
