  1  1                HOUSE RESOLUTION NO.    
  1  2                        BY  QUIRK
  1  3 A Resolution to recognize the sesquicentennial of the
  1  4    town of New Hampton, Iowa.
  1  5    WHEREAS, the town of New Hampton, now the county
  1  6 seat of Chickasaw County, was founded 150 years ago in
  1  7 the northeast corner of Iowa, and now sits at the
  1  8 junction of United States Highways 18 and 63, with a
  1  9 population of approximately 3,692; and
  1 10    WHEREAS, the name of New Hampton was chosen by its
  1 11 earliest postmaster, who named the town after his own
  1 12 hometown; and
  1 13    WHEREAS, New Hampton serves as the commercial hub
  1 14 of Chickasaw County, with a pro=business attitude that
  1 15 encourages the growth and development of retail,
  1 16 industrial, and service=oriented enterprises; and
  1 17    WHEREAS, the government of New Hampton is served by
  1 18 dedicated and exceptional civic leaders who have been
  1 19 instrumental in maintaining the community as a vibrant
  1 20 part of rural Iowa; and
  1 21    WHEREAS, the public and parochial schools and the
  1 22 community college located in New Hampton have always
  1 23 been a source of pride to the community, each having a
  1 24 faculty and student body dedicated to the pursuit of
  1 25 academic and athletic excellence; and
  1 26    WHEREAS, New Hampton serves the medical needs of
  1 27 the entire county with a large medical clinic, several
  1 28 dental clinics, and an up=to=date hospital providing
  1 29 the best in emergency room services, inpatient and
  1 30 outpatient care, and a variety of specialty clinics;
  2  1 and
  2  2    WHEREAS, the surrounding farms and rural businesses
  2  3 provide a major impetus to the growth and development
  2  4 of the entire area, with a "can=do" spirit and a
  2  5 dedication to cooperation that yields prosperity for
  2  6 the whole community, both town and country; and
  2  7    WHEREAS, the ideal of civic responsibility remains
  2  8 strong in New Hampton, with community=minded service
  2  9 organizations, civil organizations, and individuals
  2 10 working constantly to maintain and improve the quality
  2 11 of life and ensure a bright future for the entire
  2 12 community; NOW THEREFORE,
  2 13    BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
  2 14 That the House salutes the town of New Hampton on its
  2 15 sesquicentennial and thanks the entire community for
  2 16 the role it has played in making Iowa a good place to
  2 17 live, work, and raise a family.
