  1  3 A Resolution to recognize the sesquicentennial of the
  1  4    city of Osage, Iowa.
  1  5    WHEREAS, the city of Osage, the county seat of
  1  6 Mitchell County, was founded 150 years ago and is
  1  7 located in north central Iowa on Highway 9 and Highway
  1  8 218, with a population of approximately 3,464; and
  1  9    WHEREAS, the city of Osage is named after Orrin
  1 10 Sage, who donated land to the city for the purpose of
  1 11 a library; and
  1 12    WHEREAS, the public and parochial schools located
  1 13 in Osage have always been a source of pride to the
  1 14 community, each having a faculty and student body
  1 15 dedicated to the pursuit of academic and athletic
  1 16 excellence; and
  1 17    WHEREAS, the needs of the area are served by a
  1 18 medical clinic, multiple pharmacies and dental
  1 19 offices, and an up=to=date hospital providing the best
  1 20 in emergency room services, inpatient and outpatient
  1 21 care, and a variety of specialty clinics; and
  1 22    WHEREAS, Osage serves as the commercial hub of
  1 23 Mitchell County, with a pro=business attitude that
  1 24 encourages the growth and development of retail,
  1 25 industrial, and service=oriented enterprises; and
  1 26    WHEREAS, the city government of Osage is served by
  1 27 dedicated and exceptional civic leaders who have been
  1 28 instrumental in maintaining the community as a vibrant
  1 29 part of rural Iowa; and
  1 30    WHEREAS, Osage's municipal utility provides
  2  1 excellent electric, natural gas, and
  2  2 telecommunications services to the community; and
  2  3    WHEREAS, the ideal of civic responsibility remains
  2  4 strong in Osage, with more than 50 service
  2  5 organizations working to maintain and improve the
  2  6 quality of life, to ensure a bright future for the
  2  7 entire community, and to provide citizens with
  2  8 opportunities offered by a diverse ecumenical
  2  9 community; and
  2 10    WHEREAS, famous citizens of Osage include American
  2 11 author Hamlin Garland and United States Secretary of
  2 12 Agriculture Mike Johanns; and
  2 13    WHEREAS, the city of Osage is commemorating its
  2 14 150th anniversary with celebrations scheduled from
  2 15 June 30 through July 8, 2006; NOW THEREFORE,
  2 16    BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
  2 17 That the House of Representatives recognizes and
  2 18 extends its congratulations to the city of Osage on
  2 19 its sesquicentennial and invites all Iowans to make a
  2 20 visit to the Osage celebrations a part of their summer
  2 21 plans.
