  1  2                  BY  UPMEYER and WISE
  1  3 A Resolution honoring John G. Pappajohn, a 2006
  1  4    nationally recognized Outstanding Community College
  1  5    Alumnus.
  1  6    WHEREAS, John G. Pappajohn graduated in 1948 from
  1  7 Mason City Junior College, the predecessor of North
  1  8 Iowa Area Community College (NIACC), and is among
  1  9 NIACC's most accomplished alumni and top benefactors;
  1 10 and
  1 11    WHEREAS, Mr. Pappajohn joins a prestigious
  1 12 contingent of community college alumni from across the
  1 13 nation honored by the American Association of
  1 14 Community Colleges for their outstanding professional
  1 15 contributions and generous philanthropy; and
  1 16    WHEREAS, Mr. Pappajohn has a dream to make Iowa the
  1 17 most entrepreneurial state in the nation and
  1 18 encourages and supports the development and growth of
  1 19 new business ventures through John Pappajohn
  1 20 Entrepreneurial Centers at NIACC and around the state;
  1 21 and
  1 22    WHEREAS, Mr. Pappajohn represents what community
  1 23 colleges stand for and provides opportunities for new
  1 24 Iowa entrepreneurs to live the American dream; and
  1 25    WHEREAS, Mr. Pappajohn has achieved many honors and
  1 26 accolades in the course of his career, including the
  1 27 Iowa Business Leader of the Year, the Oscar C. Schmidt
  1 28 Iowa Business Leadership Award, the Brotherhood Award,
  1 29 the Hellenic Heritage Achievement Award, the Iowa
  1 30 Business Hall of Fame, Entrepreneur of the Year, the
  2  1 Ellis Island Medal of Honor, the NIACC Outstanding
  2  2 Alumni Award, and the Horatio Alger Award; NOW
  2  3 THEREFORE,
  2  4    BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
  2  5 That the House of Representatives recognizes John G.
  2  6 Pappajohn for his 2006 National Outstanding Community
  2  7 College Alumni Award and his vision and philanthropy
  2  8 which will have long=lasting and far=reaching effects
  2  9 in Iowa.
