House Resolution 122 - Introduced PAG LIN 1 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 1 2 BY BELL, EICHHORN, DANDEKAR, ROBERTS, GIPP, MURPHY, 1 3 CARROLL, LYKAM, and HUSER 1 4 A Resolution requesting the Congress of the United 1 5 States to give due consideration to the readiness 1 6 of the Republic of China on Taiwan for membership 1 7 in the United Nations. 1 8 WHEREAS, the Republic of China on Taiwan has 1 9 established a democratic, multiparty political system, 1 10 its diplomacy aimed at national unification 1 11 demonstrates its progressive spirit as a government 1 12 and a people, and its inclusion in the United Nations 1 13 would only further the universality of this essential 1 14 global forum; and 1 15 WHEREAS, already having provided many developing 1 16 nations with financial assistance, as well as overseas 1 17 aid, training, and disaster relief, Taiwan has amply 1 18 illustrated its concern for the welfare of the world; 1 19 and 1 20 WHEREAS, the government of Taiwan has accepted the 1 21 obligations contained in the United Nations Charter 1 22 and agrees to promote international peace and 1 23 security; and 1 24 WHEREAS, the fundamental right of the 21 million 1 25 citizens of Taiwan to be partners in the community of 1 26 nations should no longer be denied; NOW THEREFORE, 1 27 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, 1 28 That the House of Representatives supports the 1 29 membership of the Republic of China on Taiwan in the 1 30 United Nations and urges due consideration by the 2 1 Congress of the United States; and 2 2 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That upon adoption, an 2 3 official copy of this Resolution be prepared and 2 4 presented to the President of the United States 2 5 Senate, the Secretary of the United States Senate, the 2 6 Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, 2 7 the Clerk of the United States House of 2 8 Representatives, the members of Iowa's congressional 2 9 delegation, and the Secretary General of the United 2 10 Nations. 2 11 LSB 6390HH 81 2 12 jr:rj/je/5 1
