  1  1                HOUSE RESOLUTION NO.    
  1  2               BY  PETTENGILL AND UPMEYER
  1  3 A Resolution celebrating 2006 as the Department of
  1  4    Elder Affairs 40th anniversary as the state unit
  1  5    on aging.
  1  6    WHEREAS, the Department of Elder Affairs has made
  1  7 significant contributions to the dignity and welfare
  1  8 of older Iowans in countless recorded and unrecorded
  1  9 ways; and
  1 10    WHEREAS, older Iowans have played and continue to
  1 11 play a critical economic, cultural, social, and
  1 12 educational role in the growth and history of Iowa;
  1 13 and
  1 14    WHEREAS, the Department of Elder Affairs will
  1 15 continue to collaborate with its partners in Iowa's
  1 16 aging network to meet the needs of the coming
  1 17 generation of older Iowans, which is expected to grow
  1 18 by 44 percent by the year 2030; and
  1 19    WHEREAS, the mission of the Department of Elder
  1 20 Affairs is to provide advocacy, educational, and
  1 21 prevention services to older Iowans so that Iowa will
  1 22 remain a healthy, safe, productive, and enjoyable
  1 23 place to live and work; NOW THEREFORE,
  1 24    BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
  1 25 That the House of Representatives supports the ongoing
  1 26 efforts of the Department of Elder Affairs in
  1 27 providing programs and services to older Iowans; and
  1 28    BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the House of
  1 29 Representatives recognizes the 40th anniversary of the
  1 30 Department of Elder Affairs as the state unit on aging
  2  1 and invites the citizens of Iowa to continue to
  2  2 support the department in fulfilling its critical
  2  3 mission to older Iowans.
