  1  2     BY  BELL, HUSER, CARROLL, and VAN ENGELENHOVEN
  1  3 A Resolution welcoming the Whirlpool Corporation to
  1  4    the State of Iowa and offering support and
  1  5    assistance for Whirlpool's success and future in
  1  6    Iowa.
  1  7    WHEREAS, in 1893 in Newton, Iowa, the entrepreneur
  1  8 F.L.  Maytag started the company that would become the
  1  9 Maytag Corporation known worldwide for appliances of
  1 10 the highest quality and innovation; and
  1 11    WHEREAS, the city of Newton and the State of Iowa
  1 12 have a rich, 113=year history with the Maytag
  1 13 Corporation as an outstanding employer and corporate
  1 14 citizen; and
  1 15    WHEREAS, generations of a highly educated workforce
  1 16 of loyal men and women dedicated themselves to
  1 17 building a brand heritage for Maytag and its family of
  1 18 brands that is unmatched in the marketplace; and
  1 19    WHEREAS, the shareholders of the Maytag Corporation
  1 20 have elected to accept the Whirlpool Corporation's
  1 21 offer to purchase the Maytag Corporation, adding over
  1 22 $4.7 billion in annual sales to the Whirlpool
  1 23 organization with the purchase; and
  1 24    WHEREAS, the continued operations of the merged
  1 25 organizations within the State of Iowa is of great
  1 26 importance to the citizens of Iowa; NOW THEREFORE,
  1 27    BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
  1 28 That on behalf of the people of the State of Iowa, the
  1 29 House of Representatives does hereby welcome to the
  1 30 cities of Amana, Newton, and North Liberty and to the
  2  1 State of Iowa, the Whirlpool Corporation, and eagerly
  2  2 stands ready to assist the Whirlpool Corporation in
  2  3 any way feasible to ensure its success in the global
  2  4 market with operations in Iowa.
